Central Texas College receives a $250,000 grant to help parenting students

KILLEEN, Texas - Balancing college coursework with raising a family is a challenge many know all too well. For single parents, the juggling act of time and money can feel nearly impossible. Central Texas College is stepping up to help with a new grant aimed directly at students who are also parents.

The college has received a $250,000 grant designed to provide targeted support for parenting students. The funding will go toward resources that help these students stay enrolled and complete their degrees. Officials say the money will be used for childcare assistance, emergency financial aid, and academic advising tailored to the unique schedules of parents.

Many student parents report that a lack of affordable childcare is the biggest barrier to finishing school. This grant aims to remove that roadblock. The college plans to work with local childcare providers to offer subsidized care during class times and study hours.

Beyond childcare, the grant will also fund a dedicated support coordinator. This person will help parenting students navigate financial aid, find housing resources, and connect with community services. The goal is to create a safety net that keeps students from dropping out when unexpected expenses arise.

Central Texas College expects the program to serve dozens of students in its first year. If successful, the college hopes to secure additional funding to expand the initiative. For now, the $250,000 grant represents a significant step toward making higher education more accessible for parents in the Killeen area.
